TRI-ADE PEACE FOUNDATION
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION
Unfolding events in our dear motherland,
Nigeria, over the last few years are threatening to unravel the century old
labour of our founding fathers and subsequent generations in building a strong,
united and peaceful nation that can accommodate and cater for the needs and
aspirations of our diverse communities.
Internecine crises are raging across the land
unabated with damaging consequences on the social, political and economic life
of the nation. The loss of innocent lives being experienced by the day across
the nation is simply unbearable. This cannot be allowed to continue!
The
failure of the state to assure public order, to contribute to dispute
settlement and to implement post-conflict peace
building measures is a factor, it has pitted one religion against another
and has seen confrontations between different sects. To deal with the risks, community-level initiatives need to be
reinforced.
Finally, we need to reiterate that no
meaningful development can ever occur in an atmosphere of violence and hatred.
History has shown that any society that is built on the structures of violence
and intolerance cannot prosper.
On our part, we are ready to do whatever is
possible to promote the quest for peace and harmony. And are ready to join
hands with all patriots to sustain and further enhance the unity and progress
of this country. It is this vision and
commitment that informed the birth of TRI-ADE PEACE FOUNDATION.
The TRI-ADE
Peace Foundation (TPF) is a humanitarian, non-profit, apolitical and interfaith
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded by Mr Timothy Michael Adepoju, a victim
of the Religious Crisis of February 20th, 2006 in Bauchi State.
The foundation
is named after the memory of the trio killed in the crisis; i.e. his mother; Mama Rebecca Adepoju, his brother; Babatunde Adepoju and his sister; Hannah Adepoju, whom were murdered and
burnt on the February 20th, 2006 Religious crisis in Bauchi
State.
The founder named
the organization(TRI-ADE i.e. 3-ADEPOJUS’)
after the Trio, especially due to his Mother’s role as a mediator and a peace
loving woman who gave her best to her community by settling family disputes.
‘Mama’ as fondly called was known to always give urgent and prompt attention to
women in problem (Christians and Muslims alike) in the community while
alive.
On the 20th February that my mother was killed, she was
in the mood of fasting and prayers for
peace in families and in Nigeria at large. This her course for making peace
reign in our homes and Nation cannot be halted despite the demise of my mother
and that is why I have embarked on this course to bring it to fruition to
promote peace in Nigeria.
This incident however, left me with
nothing and nobody, but does not leave me without an option of living a normal
life again and further equipped me with more sense of humour to sensitize the
youths on the need to shun violence, eschew differences and embrace peace. This
is the baseline for this foundation - The
TRI-ADE PEACE FOUNDATION.
The founder - Tim Michael Adepoju owes his life and survival today to
God, Who spared his life in a miraculous way during the crisis after several
hours of sojourn to the land of the dead.
